Boneless pork shoulder steaks

Might’ve been my last post where I’d stated that I wasn’t really surprised with my most viewed post of 2012 (and I think I probably forgot to say which one it was). What I can’t quite believe is that I hadn’t made it since then. And that was my first foray into the blogosphere using WP. I’ve found this particular recipe on several pins within Pinterest, with good, if not limited, feedback. So, I decided to make it again last night in preparation for today’s lunch. Well, reading through the post itself I was surprised that I hadn’t covered the saucepan with a lid all the way through cooking as I normally would. Out of curiosity I left it on fairly high heat, in my favourite heavy-based, without a lid and, my-oh-my, what a mess! The sauce bubbled up and over which meant I had to scrub my hob/stove top late last night. Turned out I’d used the wrong saucepan. Still, at least it tasted exactly as before, with incredibly tender meat and a dipping sauce, regardless of how messy it is, with fairly robust flavours of sweet balanced with the sharpness of whole grain mustard. Nothing bombastic here, I’m pleased to say. And this leaves a wonderfully warm and lingering aftertaste that left me licking my lips for a while. For the actual post please click here.

  1. “Nothing bombastic here” …? it reads (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vcfu6Z3it_8) as something I want to try very soon … Just look at the colour for a start! Incredibly inviting … and thanks for the tip regarding the lid … and bless the mess when it comes to cooking!

  2. I’m licking my lips as I type! Yum… Look at the beautiful color. I love pork shoulder. And I’m sure the mess was worth cleaning for. ;)

  3. I just visited the recipe… this is GOOD! Fae.

  4. Just visited the original post – beautiful pics that makes you want to cook this right away, or make someone cook it for you :-). You can see in the pics how tender the meat is, very delicious!

    • The meat turns out very tender. If they’re uneven in size a couple of whacks with a kitchen mallet would help. I’m surprised at how good this is as there are so few ingredients. And, pleased to say I managed a slightly better photo today of the second steak. Thought there was too much meat on the plate before. So glad you had a look.
