And for my next post – another update!
It’s been a regular thing for me to update particular recipes, especially with new photos as I’m very seldom happy with them. Normally I just publicize an update through Facebook, Google+ and Twitter. This time, as it’s so close to Christmas, I thought I’d update via a new post (besides, I kinda like the photo – regardless of how dull it was outside today). Partly as this particular update (and the next) is to do with my lunch on Christmas Day itself – if I manage to buy in all of the necessary vegetables. Earlier, I went to one of my local supermarkets within walking distance and it looks like panic buying has started already. Seriously, they were out of lots of their regular veg. Anyway, I’ll buy in most vegetable stuff tomorrow instead of waiting until Christmas Eve. If it’s going to be anything like last year by Christmas Eve that particular store looked like the Apocalypse had happened. No kidding, most of their shelves were empty like the store had been raided! And I couldn’t quite believe my luck that I managed to grab the last pack of smoked salmon to have for a late breakfast with creamy scrambled eggs, toasted brown bread with the salmon drenched in freshly squeezed lemon juice and freshly milled black pepper. Delish! Anyway, I won’t be too disappointed this year if I can’t find smoked salmon as long as I manage to buy in lots of veg. For the actual post itself please click here.

What a gorgeous picture! I love chestnuts!!!
Thank you! I love them at this time of year. Yet, I know of very few recipes for them. Must Google!
I’m the same. Most times I just have them roasted with ice cold butter:)
Must try that. I do mine, after they’re roasted, in butter to reheat them. Have to be careful, though as some of them went too crunchy today.
beautiful beautiful photograph and lovely writing. The scrambled eggs with smoked salmon drenched in lemon, and toasted brown bread has got me thinking I need a little late night trip into the kitchen…
Thank you! The creamy eggs do go really well with smoked salmon, even though it sounded slightly odd when I wrote the post!
Roasted chestnuts here brought back fond memories of my childhood in Japan… chestnut roasting vendors In every corner of major streets in the wintertime. Aroma of the hot roasted chestnuts lure us to it for a treat.
Marron decorated cakes are also favorites of many in Japan. :D Fae.
Marron cakes? Will Google, to check if they’re made with chestnut flour as I’d love to try baking with them. I know the Italians bake bread using it. Will have to start collecting recipes as I love their flavour.
Beautiful picture you got here. Really lovely!
Thanks, as always. Had to shoot beside the window instead of facing South facing light the natural light was so dull!
Your photos are lovely…and remind me of the street vendors selling them at the Christmas markets in Germany.
Thank you. Most days I’m struggling with waning natural light. I’ve only ever had roasted chestnuts in NYC. And that was partly to keep my hands warm!
Your photos are beautiful. The salmon with lemon & fresh black pepper sounds divine!
It’s very typically British to serve smoked salmon that way. And, regardless of trying this in other countries where they use differing recipes for me the Brit way is simply the best
I am going to try it :)
